Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Niagara Skydive Centre?

Niagara Skydive Centre is Ontario’s Tandem Specialist. We are also the only skydive centre in Ontario that includes an aerial tour of Niagara Falls on all jump flights to altitude1! We are a full-time skydive centre, with professional instructors and commercial pilots on duty every day. For added peace of mind, all our instructors are Canadian Sport Parachuting Association (CSPA) and/or United States Parachute Association (USPA) certified.

1. Due to localized inclement weather, or other air traffic control restrictions that may be in effect, there may be some instances, although rare, where we are unable to over-fly Niagara Falls on your specific flight. In such cases, we may supplement your video with footage and photos of Niagara Falls that may not be from your actual flight.

What are your days of operation?

We are open 7 days a week, spring through fall, including weekends and holidays. We book Tandem appointments every hour on the hour starting at 9 a.m.

How do I make a reservation? Do I need to pay a deposit?

We recommend booking online. It’s easy, secure, and fast! This is the best way to make sure your information is correct.

When you book, you’ll be charged a deposit of $50+HST per person (see cancellation policy). We accept Visa, Visa Debit, Mastercard, and American Express.

If you have any questions or difficulty while booking, call us at 905-735-5867.

Do I need to make a reservation to skydive?

Yes.

I have a reservation, but I need to cancel it. What are my options?

While you are able to reschedule or cancel your appointment at any time, your deposit is no longer refundable if you cancel within 48 hours of your appointment. Your deposit is also non-refundable if you don’t show up for your appointment. There is no penalty if you reschedule or cancel due to poor weather, even within 48 hours of your jump.

How can I pay for my skydive?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Interac (Debit) and Cash for payment.

I don’t want to jump alone. Can I bring friends with me to skydive?

Of course—the more the merrier! Groups of all sizes are welcome at our dropzone, and we offer preferential skydive rates to groups of 5 or more people. We also offer incentives for group organizers.

Don’t know how many people are going to be in your group? That’s fine too! When you book, you’ll get a Group ID that can be shared with anyone you like. Once the people you’d like to jump with have this number, they can visit our website and add themselves to your group!

What are your group rates?

For groups of 5-9 people, we offer a discount of $10 off per person. Groups of 10 or more people receive a discount of $20 off per person. These discounts are applicable to both the Tandem and First Jump Course. Organizers of Tandem groups with at least 5 people will also receive a complimentary video worth $149.

Are all skydive experiences available 7 days a week?

Tandem Skydives are available 7 days a week. Reservations are taken daily starting at 9:00 a.m. and time slots are available every hour on the hour. The First Jump Course (FJC), which is the required ground school for the IAD Solo and PFF jumps, is offered exclusively on Saturdays, starting at 9:00 a.m.

For subsequent certification jumps, we recommend coming on a weekday. Since the majority of our tandems are scheduled on the weekend, coming on a weekday to complete Solo IAD or PFF jumps means you will be able to complete your jump(s) with less wait time and receive more one-on-one attention.

Can skydives be purchased as a gift?

Absolutely! Available for purchase in our online store, we sell gift certificates for Tandem jumps (with the option to add one of our three video packages or to purchase a video package separately), both the IAD Solo and the PFF course, or for a specific dollar amount. Gift certificates are emailed to you as a PDF document.

Are spectators welcome?

You can bring as many people to watch as you want! We have plenty of outdoor space for spectators to relax and watch.

Will I be able to see Niagara Falls?

Yes, except in cases of bad weather, or if unforeseen air traffic control restrictions are in place.

Are there any age requirements for skydiving?

With absolutely no exceptions, all skydive students must be at least 18 years old on the day of their jump.

Are there any physical requirements for skydiving?

You must weigh less than 235lbs (106kg) – keep in mind that your weight for skydiving also includes your clothing and shoes. You also need to be able to “arch,” which does require a certain degree of stretching, as well as be able to lift your legs up for landing, as if you were sitting in a chair. If you can do both, you’re physically ready to skydive!

I have never jumped before and don’t know which type of jump I should do. What are my options?

If you’ve never gone skydiving before, you can only book the Tandem Skydive. Once you’ve completed a Tandem Skydive, you can then continue on to one of our Solo Progressions.

This is my first time jumping. What will my Tandem Skydive training consist of?

There is an instructional video to watch before your in-person ground training. For the Tandem Skydive, your ground training will focus on three key positions: the exit from the aircraft, freefall, and landing. You will practice how to position yourself in the aircraft, how to properly arch while in freefall, as well as when and how to lift your legs for landing. Your tandem instructor will first demonstrate these positions, and then rehearse them with you.

I’ve completed my Tandem Skydive and am interested in continuing with a Solo Progression. What will my training consist of?

For the Instructor Assisted Deployment (IAD), your ground training consists of a 5-hour ground school course. Our First Jump Course will teach you the technical characteristics of modern ram-air parachutes, how to fly and land a parachute, the technique for exiting the aircraft, as well as emergency procedures. A Tandem Skydive is required before you complete an IAD Solo jump.

For Progressive Freefall (PFF), your training consists of everything mentioned for the IAD, plus an additional hour of ground coaching with your PFF instructors. Following the First Jump Course, you will practice the freefall arch, as well as go over how to deploy your own parachute, and how to complete your practice pulls while in freefall. A Tandem Skydive is required before you complete a PFF jump.

What should I wear?

This is entirely up to you! We want you to be comfortable during your skydiving experience, both on the ground and in the air. Generally, we recommend that you dress in layers so you’re comfortable, especially since it’s considerably cooler at jump altitude versus on the ground. The only requirement is that you wear running shoes or sneakers. You cannot wear sandals or flip-flops.

If I wear glasses or contacts, can I keep them on for when I jump?

Yes. We will give you goggles that go over your glasses or contacts. If you wear glasses and don’t need them to see distances, we suggest you take them off.

Can I do my training and jump on the same day?

Not only is it recommended so that your training remains fresh, we also have your experience structured so you complete your training and jump within the same booking. Tandem students will complete their training and jump in 2-4 hours. Solo and PFF students usually complete their jump(s) on the same day; however, if the class runs longer than expected, or if the weather changes during the day, some students may have to return at a later date to complete their jump(s). There is no additional charge to have jumps postponed.

How long will it take to learn to skydive?

For the Tandem Skydive, the entire experience will take between 2 and 4 hours, not including any ground wait time if we are forced to delay our jumps because of weather. This time includes your registration, ground instruction, gear-up, trip to Niagara Falls, the jump itself, and your debrief. Generally, the process goes much faster on a weekday, and you are likely to complete your skydive within just 2 hours.

For the Solo and PFF courses, plan on being with us for the entire day. The First Jump Course begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs for about 5 hours. Following the completion of the course, students complete their solo jumps, and PFF jumps if proceeding on in the program.

As a good rule of thumb, we recommend that you set aside the whole day, regardless of which skydive you’ve booked. This way, if there are any weather delays, you won’t have any reason to worry about timing!

Is the landing hard or rough?

Modern parachutes fly rather than fall. This means your tandem instructor can land the parachute with a gentle flare. Most landings are very smooth.

What kind of weather conditions would prevent me from jumping?

We cannot jump if the clouds are low and overcast, if the winds are gusty, or if it’s raining. We want you to fully enjoy your skydiving experience, so when Mother Nature acts up, we have to sit it out.  Call our WEATHER LINE (289-821-3233) to check the weather before you head out.

I’m coming for my skydive later this week, and see that the forecast isn’t great. Should I reschedule now?

Although the choice ultimately remains yours, we advise against rescheduling your reservation based on weather forecasts for several days (or especially weeks) in advance. This is because forecasts are merely an educated guess and are likely to change. Once we get within two days of your scheduled date, we will have a more reliable idea of what the weather is going to do. Even this can still change, so always read weather forecasts objectively.

Remember, a 40% chance of rain doesn’t mean it will actually rain. As we like to say, if there’s a 40% chance of rain, there’s still a 60% chance that you can jump, but it’s a 0% chance if you stay home.

Will you call me if my jump is postponed or cancelled because of weather?

It is your responsibility to check before leaving. Our recommendation is that you call our WEATHER LINE (289-821-3233) the evening prior to your scheduled skydive to confirm the weather forecast. We do not cancel reservations because of the weather. If the conditions are poor, you are more than welcome to reschedule to an alternative date at no cost to you.

Is there an option of having my skydive videoed or photographed?

Absolutely! We have three packages to choose from, all of which include videos and photos. You will receive your camera package by email, usually within 24 hours of your jump.

I have my own action camera. Can I bring that with me on my skydive?

Unfortunately, our insurance company says no. ☹

I haven’t received the download email for my photos yet. What should I do?

The email might have ended up in your junk or spam folders. If the download email is not in either of those folders, call us to confirm your email address.

We recommend that you download a full copy of your complete camera package to your computer, in the event you lose your download links.
